Who knew an unsigned band that met on Craigslist could do so much? Dual frontmen Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian--jingle writers by trade--released an EP as Capital Cities in 2011. Lead single 'Safe and Sound' shot to #2 on Hype Machine, #1 on CMJ's A&R chart and #1 on South American radio with support from Nic Harcourt (KCRW), Julie Pilat (KYSR, iHeartRadio), Aaron Axelsen (KITS, Popscene), Rodney Bingenheimer (KROQ), SiriusXM's Alt Nation and Pandora's SXSW Discovery Den.A string of blogosphere favorites--including remixes by DiscoTech and Shook, a cover of Pink Floyd's 'Breathe' featuring an uncanny Tupac sample, and their latest anthem 'Kangaroo Court'--helped Capital Cities reach music lovers of all stripes and ages from Moscow to Jakarta to Lima to Tokyo.Without any label backing, the band has toured the US, Canada and South America to enthused crowds sharing the stage with the likes of Chromeo, Body Language, The Knocks, Wallpaper, Theophilus London and Kendrick Lamar. Their songs have been licensed to major TV shows, commercials and retailer playlists worldwide.Guitarist Nick Merwin, bassist Manny Quintero, trumpeter Spencer Ludwig and drummer Channing Holmes round out the group. Capital Cities are in the studio finishing up their anticipated debut album.
